I’ve always been a bit of a contrarian. During my life I’ve constantly been thinking about the ways we are currently living. If you ask people what they value the most in their life, I would guess that a lot of people would say being happy or feeling good. Everything else is just means to achieve those things. But yet, these people work for corporations that force them to live their lives in ways that does not align with their life values. There must be other ways to feel fulfilled, to make money and to live. I don’t remember the first time I came across the word ‘Digital Nomad’, but I do remember the feeling it gave me. It gave me a feeling of excitement, adventure and freedom. That’s not exactly what you feel when thinking about a corporation, right?
Being a digital nomad enables you to easily get out of situations that make you unhappy.
The weather sucks? Culture is boring? Want to try something new? You can simply pack your bags and get out of there. Just the feeling that you are not chained to a location puts my mind at ease. You can do what you want, when you want, where you want. If that isn’t freedom I don’t know what is.
We are living in a magical place called planet earth
Do you really want your whole life to pass away while you haven’t seen everything that this place has to offer? Today it’s easier and cheaper than ever to travel. I think that there are a lot of people in 80’s or 90’s that are sad that they didn’t have the opportunity to travel when they were young. I also think that there are a lot of people in their 40’s, 50’s and 60’s that regret that they didn’t travel more before they got rooted. That is, before they have a mortgage, 3 kids and a corporate job that gives them a few weeks of freedom every year.
All this is possible through technology.
There are so many ways of working online that I’m sure there is some shape or form that fits your personality. The main ways are freelancing, remote-working and entrepreneurship. Working online enables to you make money in places that pays you relatively a lot of money. While spending money in places that cost relatively small amount of money. This is also known as geographical arbitrage. This have always been possible to do. You could simply save up money through your traditional job and then go on vacation to a cheaper country. However, whats new with digital nomading is that you can be in that low cost country while making the money. That was not possible before the internet. I wrote another post about money management as a digital nomad here: You should build a FU account!
Being a digital nomad is not just rainbows and roses (that’s not an actual saying right?) but what I’ve written here is purely the pros of being a digital nomad. My adventure is starting in 20 days. I’m sure in the future I’m gonna have to write a post about the cons of being a digital nomad. But until next time,
If this lifestyle inspires you and make you curious, it’s time to stop dreaming. Take Action.
